If you thought the Las Vegas travel scene was just about dropping a few quarters in the slot machine, think again because there's plenty of top-notch things to do in this town that have nothing to do with gambling.
If you're into seeing world-class shows, then you've come to the right place. While there are plenty of shows to see in Vegas perhaps the most unusual and highly sought after is the Cirque du Soleil. They offer three different performances - O, Mystere and KA and anyone who has seen them will agree this is much more than your typical circus act. The Cirque du Soleil combines theater, music, staging and unusual costumes and makeup into a unique extravaganza that is sure to impress anyone.
If you like sea life than you want to check out the dolphin habitat and secret Garden located right at the Mirage hotel. In typical Las Vegas style, you can have a drink at the bar while watching the dolphins swim nearby. This is not a dolphin show, but a dolphin research area, however part of the research does involve communicating with the Dolphins and, if you're lucky, you might see dolphins leaping and reacting to human commands. If you're into sharks, hop on over to Mandalay Bay where they have 1,000,000 gallon reef tank that houses dozens of species of sharks.
If your animal interests run more towards land animals you might want to jog back to the Mirage where you can see the white tiger habitat. It doesn't cost any money, and you can check out these beautiful, and rare, white tigers housed behind glass walls.
If you're in the mood to spend some money but don't want to see it disappear into the slot machine, then don‘t forget to include shopping on your Las Vegas travel list. Here you can browse from glittery jewelry at Harry Winston's or find fabulous decor at Versace. Over at the Venetian you can take a gondola ride and shop to your hearts content or visit the tri-level forum Caesar's Palace where you can browse through over a hundred stores.
If you don't mind taking a little ride and you want to see some great natural scenery then you might take a trip over to red rock Canyon which is near the city. Here you will find 80,000 foot peak mountains which is home to red tailed hawks. Bring your hiking shoes because you might want to take a hike on some of the hiking trails which reveal unbeatable views from the red sandstone cliffs as well as 30 foot waterfalls.
In town, you can visit the atomic testing Museum which is located in the Frank H. Rogers science and technology complex. Here you will see interactive displays and be able to view films in their concrete bunker which depict the history or of nuclear weapons testing at Nevada sites. Don't forget to take a trip to the gift shop which is said to be the most unusual one anywhere.
The while you were in Las Vegas should go to visit Fremont Street with their new 1400 foot $70 million canopy which has a continual projection of eye-popping video and amazing sounds. Housing dozens of casinos, this older section of Vegas offers more neon lights than any other place outside of Hong Kong.
So as you can see, there's a lot more to the Las Vegas travel scene than gaming tables and slot machines, but while you're busy seeing all these great attractions and sites be sure to reserve some time for the world class gambling!
