The Mirage Hotel, Las Vegas is a lush tropical getaway right in the middle of the desert. Owned by MGM, this hotel has a Hawaiian theme with a tropical rain forest right inside the front entrance. The rain forest is loaded with beautiful flowers and plants under the100 foot-high dome and includes 60 foot palm trees for ambience and shade.
In the palm tree dotted lagoons, visitors can choose among two pools to swim in under a series of cliffs with water streaming down into grottos. Of course, if all this water makes you hungry you can step out of the pool and up to the dolphin bar or Paradise Café and get a cool drink or bike eat.
If you prefer an overall tan, you might slip over to the bare pool area which is a clothing free swim area. Here you can lounge around, sip a drink from the bar and get a tan with no bikini lines. If you can't find enough to look at in here, you can always check out the dolphins which are swimming just a few feet away in their habitat.
When you need a break from the casinos, the Mirage Hotel, Las Vegas boasts a 20,000 gallon aquarium that has infuriated of interesting creatures including Puffer fishes and tanks. There are over a thousand inhabitants representing 60 species in this 53 foot long, at foot-high tank.
In fact, if you're looking for something interesting to do you might want to visit the dolphin habitat in the Secret Garden which is just next to the Siegfried and Roy animal attraction. Here you will find a dozen species of creatures to look at as well as several bottlenecked dolphins who live in the 2.5 million gallon pool and artificial coral reef system. While you're there, don't forget to check out the white tiger habitat where you will see the beautiful rare white tigers of Siegfried and Roy. You can see them 24 hours a day in their controlled environment where they enjoy pools, fountains and mountain terrain.
But all the fun of the Mirage isn't inside, outside the volcano which errupts every evening on the hour from seven to midnight is quite an attraction. You can hear it start rumbling shortly before the eruption and it shoots flames high into the sky which sprays fire and smoke 100 feet up. It can be seen from quite far away and you will often find the sidewalk packed with tourists waiting to get a view of the show.
If you're walking on the strip, you can't miss the Mirage, Las Vegas simply because of the volcano. It's 50 feet tall and is situated on three acres of water and has been titillating Las Vegas tourists for nearly 20 years.
